BARD

BARD is a game for two players about the struggle between controlling others’ perception of you and the presentation of your authentic self. You play as a traveling bard as they journey from town to town, meeting new people and learning new things. Right now you’re an amateur, but if you play your cards right your name might go down in history just like the legendary figures in the stories you tell. As you wander the land, you will learn new songs, poems, and stories to entertain. But being a bard isn’t just about entertaining people, it’s about teaching and understanding and inspiration. Even if your name isn’t remembered by history, you might be remembered by the few people whose lives you touched, providing hope and guidance when they needed it most.

In BARD, each player is working to tell the story of the bard, the central character. One person, the Storyteller, will control what the bard says and does. The other person, the Legendkeeper, will control how others perceive the bard and the people the bard interacts with. While this may mirror traditional roles of gamemaster and player, it’s important to note that in BARD both players have equal control over the narrative of the game, just with a focus on different aspects. Both players should approach the game with the same goal in mind: enjoying each other’s company while telling the story of a character that you both care about.
